The Vaughn Library in Ashland hosted a summer reading program called "Bugs, bugs, bugs!". Both kids signed up and did a lot of reading ... especially Madeline (she even got her very first library card this summer!). Throughout the summer the library held programs for kids surrounding the theme of insects ... they had movies, guest speakers, art projects, etc. At the end of the program to celebrate all the reading, they had an ice cream party! The kids played games, won prizes, and got to build their own sundaes :)
Benny put too many toppings on his ice cream and decided he didn't like it; he traded his bowl of ice cream for a bowl of 'smarshmallows. Madeline licked her bowl clean :)
One of the prizes that all the kids won was a free ice cream from Dairy Queen ... both kids were pretty excited about that!
Benny's name got drawn for a t-shirt that reads "catch the reading bug!"; Even though Benny won the shirt I'm pretty sure it will be shared between the kids :) Madeline won a book bag to carry her library books to and from the library.
